Dr. Faustus

1.       On page 1024 in the character list is a list of the 7 deadly sins. Get a general idea of what each of them are and tell/explain which you are most like to give in to.
Of the most deadly sins, I know, I will most likely give in to is sloth because I tend to be lazy and procrastinate.
2.       What do you think of Faustus’ choice to turn from the church to magic?
I think that his decision was a decision that most people will make. The reason is that when you are offered power, who wouldnt want it? And its also a tempting offer to take.
3.       Dr. Faustus is seen as constantly struggling between good and evil, whether he wants to “convert” to the dark side with magic or to stay saintly and with God. What do you see as a struggle that you go through as 1) college students, and 2) fellow alive humans? (Hint: CHS students- the Honor Council topic is something that came into my mind when formulating this question, it’s a great topic!)
As a College student, I think the struggles we face with is keeping the balance between school and your social life. Im sure no one wants to fail their classes yet at the same time they also want to have fun. As human beings I think the struggle we face is responsibility.
4.       How do you think the movie relates to the book? What characteristics to you see between the Christopher Marlowe and the writers of the movie and what characteristics do you see between Dr. Faustus and Johnny Blaze (played by Nicholas Cage)?
The relation between the movie and the book is that the two characters sold their soul to save someone they loved... (I will try to Finish Later)
5.       If you were in Dr. Faustus’ position, would you take the deal with the devil and save someone you love or would you lose the one you love and still have your “saintly figure?” What would it take for you to sell your soul to the devil, in context to the story?
It depends on whose life I am saving, and then maybe I would. There is no price for my soul unless its in exchange for someone else that I hold dear or for the guarantee of someone or a group of people's safety.
6.       EXTRA QUESTION: In response to my “rant,” what do you see as a problem in today’s society with bullying (i.e.-not enough being done to shed light to it, etc) and what can you do in your school and community to be a better advocate for the end of bullying?
Bullying cannot be prevented, to end bullying is like to rid the earth of evil, and that is probably impossible. With that said I think that people do know about it its just that they are not willing to do anything about it until there in that person's shoes. I think that if we encourage the onlookers, or the ones who just sit there and pretend that they didn't see anything, to help out in that situation, but not to help the bully pick on the other guy.
